The practical consequence for a buyer is this. Cold heading carries a tooling cost and repays it in unit price, so it is the right answer for an annual volume in the hundreds of thousands. CNC and instrument work carry no tooling cost and a higher unit price, so they are the right answer for a first production batch, a service part, or a part whose geometry no die can form. The review step is the one that saves money, and it is the reason we ask for an application rather than only a drawing. Sending a part to be quoted exactly as drawn is easy; telling you that a 0.02 mm tolerance on a non-functional diameter is doubling your price, or that switching a 4.0 mm rivet from aluminium to A2 stainless triples its shear load without touching your holes or tooling, requires knowing what the part has to survive.

Quality control

Inspection here runs on optical image screening machines for automated sorting, projectors for profile and dimensional verification, and full inspection where a drawing or an application calls for it. Optical sorting matters most on cold-headed parts in high volume, because it catches the mixed, short-formed and burred pieces that a sampling plan would statistically pass and your assembly line would then stop for.
